What are Cookies Cookies are brief fragments of texts (letters and/or numbers) that allow the web server to memorise on the client browser information to be reused in the course of the same visit to the site (session cookies) or subsequently, also after days (persistent cookies). The cookies are memories, according to the user’s preferences, by the single browser on the specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone). Similar technologies like for example, web beacons, transparent GIFs and all the types of local storage introduced with HTML5, can be used to gather information on the user’s behavior and the use of the services. After this circular letter we shall refer to the cookies and all the similar technologies by using only the term “cookie.”

Possible types of cookies In relation to the provision "Guidelines for cookies and other tracking tools", the following table shows a classification of: the categories of cookies used, the purposes, the coding criteria.

TYPE

PURPOSE

CODING CRITERIA

Technical cookies

Guarantee the normal navigation and use of the site

They are coded as technical since they are used for the sole purpose of "carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the contractor or user to provide this service ".

Analytical cookies

(technical similar)

Collect information on the number of visitors and the pages viewed

FIRST-PARTY COOKIES They are coded as comparable to technical cookies, since they are used only to produce aggregate statistics in relation to the single site (also possibly with unencrypted IP, in compliance with the purpose constraint)

THIRD-PARTY COOKIES They are coded as comparable to technical cookies, since they are used with IP address masking, without combination with other processing and without transmission to other third parties

Profiling and identification analytics

Define identification profiles of user preferences and habits

They are coded as profiling because they are used to bring back to specific, identified or identifiable subjects, specific actions or behavioral patterns recurring in the use of the functions offered (patterns) in order to group the different profiles within homogeneous clusters of different size, in so that it is also possible to modulate the provision of the service in an increasingly personalized way, as well as to send targeted advertising messages, that is, in line with the preferences expressed by the user in the context of surfing the net.

Functionality ensure via the pop-up banner

Profiling cookies are blocked by default on the first access to the site, on the occasion of which a banner is presented to the users with which the users can express their choices:

- accept only technical cookies (therefore keep profiling cookies blocked);

- accept all cookies;

- express personalized preferences on which cookies to accept.

Through the main navigation browsers it is also possible:

Management of the preferences through the main navigation browsers The user may declare whether or not he accepts the cookies by using the settings of his own browser (note that as a default, almost all the web browsers are set to automatically accept the cookies). The settings may be modified and defined in a specific way for the various web sites and applications. Furthermore the best browser allows different settings to be defined for the “proprietor” cookies and for those of “third parties.” Usually the configuration of the cookies is done by the menus, “Preferences,” “Instruments” or “Options.” Here below is a list of links to the guides for the management of cookies of the main browsers:
